The North American manufacturing world is changing in many ways. This is due to rapid advancement in technology that supports manufacturing business growth. Certain strategies can be adopted to support manufacturing growth in a new era. Here are some to consider as you take your manufacturing business to its next great level, while remaining ahead of the times.

Make your workplace a learning culture.

If you want to keep up with the changes to come in manufacturing, then you need skilled employees who are current on their knowledgebase. Support this by offering on-site learning initiatives and opportunities for employees to earn industry certification in manufacturing. Provide tuition reimbursement and invite leaders in manufacturing to teach classes at your facility for the benefit of your employees and business.

Try new technology one project at a time.

While there are many new technologies available in manufacturing, it can be overwhelming deciding what to choose. Instead, try a new technology one product or process at a time, with single projects. Then evaluate whether or not you want to invest in this technology for other tasks at your facility. You’ll be able to objectively look at the success or failure of a new idea before you spend a lot of time and effort working with it.

Connect with your prospects and clients in new ways.

The world is connected in many new ways, such as social networking and online industry groups. Your business can easily connect with prospects and clients using these methods too. Establish a brand presence and work with your marketing team to keep in front of your best prospects to drive leads.

Encourage a more collaborative workplace.

Manufacturing has typically been a team process, with each team member working on a specialty area of each project. However, in the more modern manufacturing world, skilled workers are coming together to collaborate and innovate. Create an environment that’s conducive to collaborative task management.

Give top performance employees incentives.

Your employees are likely to remain loyal to your business helping it grow when you provide meaningful incentives. Consider ways in which you can improve employee health through a corporate wellness program, regularly recognize employee achievements, or provide profit sharing and stock ownership programs to encourage productivity.
